About
Hey, I'm Nick — a dad, software engineer, and amateur runner based in Ontario, Canada.
FrugalNick started as a blog where I wrote about what I was learning about personal finance. Over time it's grown into a mix of writing and calculators that I hope make money stuff a little less confusing for regular people.
The tools on this site are things I originally built for myself — figuring out my TFSA room, estimating taxes, comparing VEQT vs XEQT, projecting what a baby actually costs. I figured if they were useful to me, they'd probably be useful to someone else too. There's now a full suite of free calculators covering investing, retirement planning, and everyday Canadian finance — no sign-up required.
I'm not a financial advisor. I'm just a guy who thinks everyone should be able to understand where their money goes without needing a finance degree or paying for software to tell them.
